Storyworld Spotlight

Miraculous

On view from from 6 July to 17 November 2024

Storyworld took you behind the scenes of the popular animated series Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir. In the Netherlands and Flanders, this popular series from the European studio Miraculous Corp (Mediawan & ZAG) has been broadcast in 120 countries all around the world on Disney Channel, Videoland and Netflix since 2015. From Saturday 6 July to Sunday 17 November 2024, the Spotlight Room displayed material from Miraculous that the public would normally never get to see, such as storyboards, concept art and character designs.

Visitors to the exhibition got a special insight into the Miraculous making process. For each episode, an extensive storyboard is created, sometimes exceeding 1,000 pages. In the exhibition, storyboards gave a very detailed picture of what happens in each scene. Using concept art, Storyworld showed how the creators did research on the best atmosphere, colour and camera settings. Character designs showed protagonists Marinette and Adrien as Japanese manga characters, as Miraculous was initially developed as an anime series. Games in the exhibition further made you aware of the amount of work behind the series.

Miraculous: the series and the film
The series follows the heroic adventures of Marinette and Adrien, who have been given the important mission of capturing 'akumas' in Paris. These are creatures that cause normal people to become bad guys. When the two teenagers are involved in such adventures, they turn into the superheroes Ladybug and Cat Noir. Only they do not know each other's true identity. The sixth season of the series will be released soon. A theatrical film Ladybug & Cat Noir: The Movie was also released in 2023.
