Over the past 40 years, Jet Boeke has written and illustrated hundreds of stories about the orange cat, and millions of books have been sold. Almost every household owns at least one Tummy Tom book. It's high time to put this famous cat in the spotlight.

From September 6 to December 7, 2025, Dikkie Dik (Tummy Tom) was featured in our Spotlight area.

Tummy Tom has been around for more than 45 years and remains as popular as ever. He had his first adventure in 1978 on television, where his stories were read aloud on the children’s program Sesame Street (Dutch version). Since 1983, his adventures have also been published in book form. Since last year, he’s also made his way to the big screen.

The first Tummy Tom movie was written by Burny Bos (Abeltje, Minoes), one of the most well-known producers and writers of Dutch children’s films. The films are directed by Joost van den Bosch and Erik Verkerk. So far, the first two Tummy Tom films have been released, set in summer and winter. Two new films are in the works, set in autumn and spring.

In the Storyworld Spotlight, visitors learned more about the making of these children’s films.
